Last week my Substack account got hacked, and I just wanted to say thank you for being here, and for being supportive despite receiving multiple spam emails sent from “me.” I’m especially grateful after almost losing a few hundred of you in the process of getting things fixed. It was obviously a very frustrating experience, leaving me feeling vulnerable and a bit violated to be honest.
After working (slowly) with Substack support, things seem to be back to normal, and are hopefully now more secure than ever on my end. I really have grown to love this platform, and while it’s exciting to see new innovations and features rolling out, my hope is that
continues to improve their support because as of now, it’s not great. The chatbot is actually pretty helpful and weirdly empathetic. But there is no way to chat online or on the phone with a real human, and email support is incredibly slow (and I honestly kept second-guessing whether I was dealing with the real support team, since I was originally phished with a fishy fake-support email).Eventually, things appear to have gotten back to normal now, a week later. So I plan to now get back to my regularly scheduled writing here, starting with a chapter of Timing is Everything tomorrow for paid subscribers, and hopefully, an issue of That’s Noteworthy at the end of the week.
So again, thanks for being here, and thanks to those of you writers who have “recommended” my newsletter via yours, and to those of you readers have shared my writing with others who might like it. I never take for granted anytime someone takes the time to read the words I’ve written.
xo,
Nicole
I was so sad and frustrated on your behalf when I saw those emails come through!! I am so relieved it’s resolved and also bummed to hear that Substack wasn’t more helpful. With the kinds of big names they have on this platform now, seems to me like they should really have a robust system in place for when and if this kind of thing happens!
I’m so glad things are getting back on track. So stressful. ❤️❤️
